"... illusion, fear, moving, freedom.

Firstly, the illusion derived from the text book about the history of Italy. Fear for the unknown language and transportation mode. I was moving since the warm hearted people and also the culture they've preserved, especially the handiworks. Then I can feel freedom from the attitude local people treated to life. They would not be bounded by anything forever. And the dwellings helped me to establish wider world view and value, made me figure out the roads that I could choose as well.”

"We have been to a lot of wonderful places, and learned a lot of knowledge about them. We studied during the trip and listened to the lectures while we were walking through the gardens. It’s a good a method to understand the structure, architecture and plants in the gardens because all of these are right in front of you. It’s a very good and meaningful experience.”

"... While the explorations around Italy were spectacular, the time spent with the professors and students in the cultural landscape that joins Casa Wallace and Casa Margherita was perhaps the most personally enriching for me. Through the professors’ knowledge of history, discussions with local historians and fieldwork, the team was able to gain an in-depth understanding of how the landscape had evolved over centuries and how early land-management practices influenced its development.

This understanding led us to create artworks following themes of sustainability, nature, culture, health and wellness—consistent with today’s experiences—to inspire and enrich the vacations of the many guests who visit.

We shared our love for creativity, design, and landscape architecture as common ground and formed a strong bond as a group, gaining experiences and memories together that we will cherish for our lifetimes.”

“Overwhelming experience."

"Going on the Landscape Architecture trip to Italy was frightening for three reasons; I am not a Landscape Architect major,I had never traveled so far from home, and I had no idea who my classmates were. However once things started all I could think was “wow I am in Italy!” Even though I am a double major in Art and Philosophy I was not left out for the Landscape Architecture discussions. So many interesting topics such as Control and Co-existence with nature had my mind completely inspired and hooked on the Italian culture. What made the experience even better was the group of wonderful people that I had the chance to get to know. All in all this experience was truly worth while and everything that I have learned will be extremely useful for me in the future.”

"Italy Study Aboard Program is a great opportunity to learn and appreciate Italian culture and Italian landscape architecture. We have been to so many beautiful places in many Italian cities, and I had a lot of fun with professors, classmates, and friends.”
